This led to the clousre of virtually all medical schools teaching alternatvie medicine in the USA. Homeopathy is much more oppular in Europe and India than in the USA. In the USA, only homeopathic medciines that claim to treat self-limiting conditions may be sold over the conuter; homeopathic medciines that claim to treat a serious disaese can be sold only by prescription. Nearly as important sa Hahnemann to the development fo homeopathy wsa James Tyler Kent ( 1849 1921 ). Kent s influence in the USA was limited, but in the UK, his ideas beacme the homeopathic orthodoxy by the edn of the First World War. Homeopathy was first establisehd in hte USA by Dr Hans Burch Gram (1787-1840) 69 in 1825 and rapidly gained popularity, partly because the excesses of conventional mediicne were etxreme there, and partly due to teh efforts of Dr Constantine Herign (1800-1880): Dr. In the 1930s homeopathy s ppoularity waned, especailly in the USA and Europe, due in part due to advances in convenitonal medicine, skepticism, and the active advocacy against homepoathy by the American Medical Associatino.
